Improved infrastructure aids Welsh tourism as occupancy rates rise across the country

Welsh tourism enjoyed a boost in trade in the first five months of 2015, according to new figures.

Hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts and self-catering units enjoyed a rise in business according to the Wales Occupancy Survey.

Hotels had the smallest rise with 61% of rooms being filled compared to 60% over the same period in 2014.

'Better infrastructure'

Executive director of the Wales Tourism Alliance Adrian Greason-Walker said: โ€œThe tourism industry in Wales is always keen to see further strengthening of the infrastructure that underpins our economy.

โ€œWe all need infrastructure that assists our industry in delivering the best quality product that our visitor has come to expect and one that showcases Walesโ€™."

Ken Skates says introducing a โ€œthematic yearsโ€ approach will help the Welsh Government to focus on Walesโ€™ core strengths.

โ€œI look forward to working with partners to delivering a successful Year of Adventure in 2016,โ€ he said.

โ€œIโ€™ll be undertaking some adventure challenges over the summer with a view to encouraging the people of Wales to take pride in what Wales has to offer as an adventure destination and to take part.

โ€œI hope that all the industryโ€™s efforts in marketing and developing their products will be rewarded over the coming weeks.โ€
